Another News Story

Another News Story goes 'behind the scenes' of the news crews reporting the refugee story at the height of the European crisis. It takes the viewer to the other side of the camera and inspires us to re-evaluate our relationship with the global media and how we consume news.
Shot across nine countries from Greece to Germany, the film chronicles a journey beset by physical deprivation and danger, bureaucratic and political obstacles and thousands of miles of uncertainty. As the refugees wind their way across Europe they are accompanied by a pack of fellow travellers – reporters, camera-operators, producers and news vans. The refugees are searching for a safe place to live, while the reporters are after a good story. Along the way, we get to know a few central figures from each group. They include a Syrian woman who left her children behind and is now trying to reach Germany, where she hopes to start a new life. There's also journalist Bruno and cameraman Johnny, who view the chaos with a blend of concern and cynicism. Their priority is to distill what they see and hear into a compelling news story. Orban Wallace's film raises questions about the world behind the news. How does a story become world news, and what happens after the cameras and microphones are switched off?
